Parleremo • Urdu

Urdu is a Central Indo-Aryan language and spoken by more than 100 million people. It is the national language of Pakistan and largely spoken in some regions of India. Standard Urdu is mutually intelligible with Standard Hindi, and the combined population of Hindi and Urdu speakers is the fourth largest in the world.

Introductory Urdu Volume 1  This is an Urdu Texbook avaible online that teaches basic Urdu. Very useful and thick book.
Urdu In Pakistan  This site is a very brief introduction to Urdu. It teaches basic phrases.
Digitial Urdu Ghazal Reader  This is a great resource for Urdu. It reads aloud Ghazal's then translates them. It has vocabulary lists, reading comprehension and of course beautiful Ghazal's.
Urdu Maza  A website all in Urdu tht has Urdu poetry, songs, stories and music albums.
Haroof  A site with everything in Urdu including recipes, home & gardening, news, jokes, and poetry.
Daily jang  A daily news site for Urdu.
Urdu Headstart  This couse designed by the Defense language instutue has ten lessons, including two Sound and Script and five more with phrases and basic words.
The Modern Hindustani Scholar  An online book that teaches Hindustani but it is good for Urdu since it's most wriiten in the Urdu script.
Darvazah-A Door into Urdu  A complete course in Urdu feauturing video's, audio, gramamr lessons and a lot more. It also teaches Urdu script.
Coloumbia Urdu  A basic course in Urdu from Coloumbia. Main focus is the script.
A Garden Of Kashmir  Also from Columbia, it feautures poetry and ghazals from Mir Taqi 'Mir' (1723-1810). It's very good for reading practice in Urdu.
Urdu Literture Links  A site from Columbia Universty that feautures tons of Urdu literture including Umrao Jaan Ada, Kafan, Toba Tek Singh, and famous poetry. Some have an English translaton and transliteration.

Daily Khabaren" of Pakistan  Daily news site based in Pakistan, also has a live channel.
Akhbar-e-Jahan Karachi  A site in Urdu from Karachi. Has many articles and pictures.
Radio Azad  A Pakistani run radio station broadcasting live from the United States. It mostly broadcasts in Urdu and Hindi, but also has some other regional language programs.
Intermediate Urdu  A great site that has readings and audio in Urdu. This is for intermediate and advanced students. It also has professor lectures. It's a very good site!
The Urdu Spot  A great website with tons of stories and ghazals in Urdu.
Munsif Daily  A website that has articles both in English and Urdu. The website is based in Hyderbad.
Urdu 1  This is the site to one of Pakistan's most watched television. It features shows, news and other programs all in Urdu.
