Hausa has around 43 million speakers and is spoken mainly in Nigeria and Niger. It is this most spoken Chadic language, which is a branch of the Afro-Asiatic languages. It is a tone language. It is written with a form of the Arabic script called Ajami, but there is no standard spelling system for it.
